Negroni Sbagliato – The Nigella

In 1972, Mirko Stocchetto at the Bar Basso in Milan accidently grabbed a bottle of prosecco instead of the gin and the Negroni Sbagliato was born. It’s all in the name as "sbagliato" in Italian means mistaken or broken. Unlike the many stories about Negroni (see Negroni stories). the origin of this cocktail is not contested

For our version, we double the measure of No.2 Camille’s Red as it’s less sweet and subtle in flavour than traditional vermouth and half the Campari to balance the drink. If substituting with a sweeter vermouth, you will want to increase the volume of bitters.

We have named it after London food goddess Nigella Lawson who said that it’s her favourite summer cocktail which she likes to serve by the jug. Our recipe is for a single glass.

Ingredients:

How to make:

1. Fill large (burgundy) wine glasses with ice to chill or pre-chill in freezer

2. Pour Ingredients in chilled wine glass & add fresh cubed ice

3. Gently add in the sparkling wine – pouring it down a bar or long spoon that's been placed in the glass will stop the bubbles roaming over the edge of the glass

4. Stir contents of the glass together, top up further and garnish with the orange slice
